Above It All

Luxury living with a view

Four bedrooms. Two levels. Home theater. Wet bar and cocktail lounge. Four-space garage.
None of these features would seem out of place in any luxury suburban property listing. Surely less common, however, is to find them in a deluxe apartment in the sky that also boasts two private terraces and expansive views of both the Fox River and downtown St. Charles.

Originally two separate “cold shells” on the fourth and fifth floors of the River Lofts building at 50 S. 1st St., the combined unit 5D, now on the market for $2.5 million, has been fully customized as a single two-level, 4,300-square-foot penthouse that stands as something of a suburban outlier—a luxury home with some altitude.

From the sleek black-and-white kitchen to the spacious living room with fireplace, it’s everything a homebuyer would expect from a high-end property–five floors above street level. And that’s where it moves into a category of its own, thanks to the sweeping vistas from nearly every room, the aforementioned private terraces, and access to a rooftop deck for larger gatherings. Meanwhile, the abundance of shops and restaurants of downtown St. Charles (including a new Whole Foods) are just an elevator ride away.
