DuPage Sets Sights on Digital Forensics

New unit to focus on data analysis to assist in investigations

Looking to provide its state’s attorney’s office with new ways to navigate the ever-evolving technological landscape of criminal investigations, the DuPage County Board recently authorized more than $400,000 in contracts toward the rollout of a new digital forensics unit. The allocation will help fund digital device data extraction, processing, and analysis and digital device data processing software for the new unit, which State’s Attorney Robert Berlin says will give prosecutors the ability to more easily review and analyze digital devices for charging decisions and prosecution, as well as improve investigative and operational efficiency by eliminating time currently spent uploading and downloading files
