A Midwestern upbringing
People ask me, ‘What’s so great about Missouri?’ and I’m like, ‘Nothing, but it’s fine.’ Midwestern people are the underdogs. We’re just kind of OK. We’re not the cool kids, and we never will be. But the weird thing is that we’re fine with that—or at least I am, anyway.

A bottomless well of material
My parents are the inspiration for so much of my act. That’s why I bought them a condo in Florida, so they’ll stay alive. I can’t risk them dying in some Midwest ice storm—they’re my main source of material, so I need to keep them happy and healthy.

Life on the road
I really enjoy traveling, but my biggest complaint is the hotel keycards. I’ve had it. There have been so many times that I’ve come back to the hotel tired or maybe just half-drunk, and I have to walk all the way back to the front desk because I’ve lost that card. So if we can go back to the old-fashioned keys, I’d really appreciate it. I don’t think it’s going to happen, but if given the chance to vent about it, I will.
