9/11 Remembrance

The Exchange Club of Naperville sponsors Naperville’s annual September 11 remembrance, this year’s event marking the 19th anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks on the nation.
The remembrance will take place starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, at the Cmdr. Dan Shanower Memorial, located behind the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle St., along the Riverwalk. In the event of rain or other inclement weather, the event will be cancelled.
The event will commence at the tolling of the Millenium Carillon bells, followed by musical selections from the Naperville Municipal Band, led by Dr. Ron Keller. The event will also feature remarks by Exchange Club of Naperville President Ron Amato, Exchange Club of Naperville Americanism Committee member Marty Walker, Naperville Mayor Steve Chirico, Naperville Fire Department Chief Mark Puknaitis and Naperville Police Department Chief Robert Marshall.
A member of the Young Naperville Singers will perform our nation’s National Anthem and an additional special selection. Naperville Firefighters Highland Guard and a combined Color Guard will perform ceremonial duties. Designees of Naperville Firefighter of the Year and Naperville Police Officer of the Year will perform the placement of the patriotic wreath, which is donated this year by Phillip’s Flowers of Naperville.
Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets to sit on and to wear face masks at all times. Maintaining social distance of at least six feet between groups is highly encouraged. Those who are unable to attend in person may watch on NCTV17, which will broadcast the event live and simulcast via their website, www.nctv17.com.
