Rene Avila’s Quartet is the only band in the Midwest that plays this traditional music from the ’40s and ’50s which came from Cuba. Considered the “New York” style, which was developed in the states in the ’60s and ’70s. The Charangueo ensemble plays a wide range of Afro-Cuban styles from Salsa, Cha-Cha-Cha, Guaguanco, Danzon, Guajira, Guaracha, Mambo and Son.
