European flourishes abound throughout this Naperville home

The Summer Olympics in Paris undoubtedly got many viewers dreaming of a trip to L’hexagone. For those looking to experience the Franco-inspired life a little closer to home, this custom-built house at 813 Jackson Avenue in Naperville, now on the market for $1.5 million, just might scratch that European itch.

Featuring materials, finishes, and design elements meant to evoke settings and sensibilities of the French countryside, the 3,300-square-foot home also boasts an abundance of custom reclaimed oak and chestnut woodwork, including the floors, ceiling beams, staircases, cabinetry, bar, and outdoor pergola. The kitchen is highlighted by a built-in banquette, while the fourth bedroom is currently outfitted as something of a private speakeasy, complete with its own staircase to a separate entrance.

But perhaps the room that listing agents Alice Chin and Jim Gargano of Compass like showing prospective buyers the most is the conservatory, with its English-style skylight featuring a border with a fox hunt scene and underlighting for illumination, as well as French doors leading out to the patio and pergola—a fitting place for reveling in a relaxing European evening, right here in the western suburbs.
