New veterans’ housing development approved for downtown Wheaton

The Wheaton City Council recently approved a proposal from the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans to construct a four-story housing facility for veterans and their families. Breaking ground later this year on a vacant plot at Main and Willow Streets and set to begin offering leases in late 2027, the Hero Homes development will feature 20 apartment units. Beyond shelter, the project also will provide a variety of other benefits for at-risk and low-income veterans, including clinical aid and employment services.
