A liquor store meet-cute lead to long-time love for this couple

Many couples nowadays meet on dating apps, but Plainfield residents Jenny Grant and Greg Andros are proof that an old-fashioned chance meeting can still lead to romance. “We met in the vodka aisle at Binny’s,” says Grant, a pharmaceutical representative for Amgen. She was picking up refreshments for a holiday party with a friend who knew Andros, a urologist with Advanced Urology in Joliet and New Lenox. They bumped into each other, concurred that Belvedere was the best vodka choice, and then went on their merry ways.

Grant and Andros would come to find out that they had several other friends in common, and though they were both in relationships at the time, they continued to run into each other at social events. Years later when they were both single again, their friends encouraged them to get together. They eventually obliged and went on their first official date 12 years ago, in August 2013. “We were instantly best friends and could relate to each other,” Grant says. “And the support of our friends really kept us together.”

Though they considered each other soulmates, they weren’t rushing to the altar. “We were like, ‘Do we really want to get married again?’ ” Andros says. “Nah, we are going to be a Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn sort of couple. They’ve outlasted all of Hollywood.” As the years went on, though, their viewpoint shifted. “We just wanted to grow old together being husband and wife,” Grant says.

Their May 24, 2025, wedding was the very first hosted at Heartland Farm, a new event venue in Oswego. From their previous marriages, Andros and Grant have three and four children, respectively, ranging in age from 16 to 34. Several were able to join them for their wedding day. “My dad’s been passed for a while, so my sons Gavin and Joey walked me down the aisle,” Grant says. “My daughter Libby helped me with so much, and Greg’s daughter Lindsay was there early with us, and we all got ready together.” Libby and her friends also delivered a surprise karaoke performance of “Super Trouper” by ABBA, complete with metallic costumes inspired by the Mamma Mia! musical.

They asked a friend to officiate their ceremony. “We wanted it to be quick and personal and to keep it light,” Grant says. “And then Greg really kept it light—he was supposed to have his brother get the rings.” When the time came to exchange rings, Andros realized he had forgotten entirely, so he sent his brother running to fetch them from the groom’s suite. Their officiant vamped and kept their guests entertained during the wait. “Everyone was laughing so hard, and some people even thought we did it on purpose,” Andros says. Grant maintains the right to tease Andros about the gaffe for years to come. “You had one job!” she says, laughing.

At the reception, the bar served a custom cocktail menu featuring cordials and syrups from Chicago-based maker Appel’s as well as a Belvedere vodka martini—a fitting callback to their first meeting. They are planning a delayed honeymoon, but in the meantime are basking in the afterglow of their big day. “We all had a lot of different friends that came together, from my college friends to Greg’s kids’ friends…and everyone really enjoyed each other,” Grant says. “Our worlds collided, and we really felt the love.”
