Help along the way

Even though I’ve been around the violin since taking playtime lessons at Wheaton College when I was 3 years old, I didn’t come from a musical family—so pursuing a career in music was a pretty unusual choice. But I’ve been really fortunate to have the generosity and encouragement of great teachers throughout my career, and I’m so thankful for all of them.

The road not taken

I was an English lit major in college, so maybe I would have done something with writing if I hadn’t become a violinist. But honestly I don’t think I ever seriously considered any other path. I just can’t imagine my life without music.

Girl power

This piece [composer Courtney Bryan’s Syzygy, which honors Frida Kahlo, Maya Lin, and Alma Thomas] is really a celebration of a women’s community of artists, so I feel very honored to play a part in its premiere.
