Early Risers
A group of high schoolers from Downers Grove North wake up even earlier than their classes demand—to serve breakfast and clean up at First Congregational Church in Downers Grove, an interim housing site where DuPagePads clients seek food, safety, and shelter. After their 6:00-to-7:00 a.m. shift, 25-year volunteer and former teacher Bob Katrein treats the students to breakfast at Busy Bee Bakery.
Patient Care
Through its Subaru Loves to Care initiative, Gerald Subaru of Naperville recently donated blankets, craft kits, and numerous care cards to the Edward Cancer Center in Naperville. The dealership partners with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to donate blankets and messages of hope from customers to patients, along with arts and crafts kits for children undergoing cancer treatment.
Environmental Excellence
Cantigny Park has retained its designation as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary by Audubon International. Program participation is designed to help property managers plan, organize, implement, and document an environmental management program by demonstrating a high level of quality in environmental planning, wildlife and habitat management, outreach and education, and water and resource management. Cantigny Park was first certified in 2012—the second non-golf property in Illinois to earn the distinction.
