Laundry Lessons

Steve Meyer of Naperville-based Meyer Design is intent on beating the laundry-day blues, one new home at a time. “What we don’t want is for you to hate doing laundry,” he says. “If you’re in a tiny little room that you can barely function in, you don’t have anywhere to put your extra linens, and nowhere to fold anything, that doesn’t work. So why not create a space that actually functions beautifully for a laundry room that you don’t hate going into?”
A larger footprint is necessary for a more open feel, and ample countertop and cabinet spaces are key. “The old-school mentality was to have a hall linen closet for extra blankets and linens and towels,” he says. “Instead, it’s all in here. You don’t have to walk down the hallway to put it away.”
