For those looking for something different, this Naperville home delivers

Outside of a modest design flourish here or there, many so-called statement homes often end up making the same statement: “We’re pretty much like every other house on the block.” Not so the Jeff Muellner–designed estate at 603 Driftwood Court in Naperville, now on the market for $2.499 million. Even as boxy, modern houses continue to emerge across the suburban landscape, few announce or differentiate themselves quite as boldly as this one.

But let’s get it out of the way right upfront: Buyers might be either intrigued or repelled by the home’s curb appeal, as the angular two-part dark wood façade is simply not aiming for the middle ground. Those in the former camp who opt to explore what lies beyond that opening statement will discover an airy and open 6,300-square-foot home distinguished by soaring ceilings and an abundance of natural light. They’ll also find a continuation of the sleek, modern design promised by the exterior running through everything from the spacious kitchen to the lower-level entertaining and living space.

The many windows and wood accents throughout, meanwhile, help connect the home to the natural surroundings of its triangular 1.5-acre lot, which features a small creek and a compact woods. And other than actually walking that land, listing agent Walt Burrell of Coldwell Banker Realty says the best way to experience it is by venturing out onto the triple-tiered deck that runs nearly from one end of the house to the other. “You can be encompassed in nature by opening the doors for a true indoor/outdoor living experience,” he says. “It’s like a front-row seat to the breathtaking beauty of all four seasons.”
