New park reflects Naperville’s history

A map drawing of the upcoming Plank Road Park

The Naperville Park District has christened its newest park with a name that ties back to both the surroundings and the city’s storied past. Soon to be the city’s 141st park, Plank Road Park will be developed on land donated to the district as part of the Claire residential development located west of Naper Boulevard and north of Plank Road. The name highlights the significance of the historic wooden plank road that ran along Ogden Avenue through Naperville, providing passage for farmers and travelers moving to and from Chicago by carriage or wagon. When completed in late 2027, the park is expected to feature a playground, a shelter, and a mini amphitheater berm, as well as a concrete Plank Road themed walkway.
