Former coworkers take a trip down the aisle

The wedding party

Devotees of the red bull’s-eye are familiar with this saying: “You don’t go to Target because you need something; you let Target tell you what what you need.” For Naperville residents Sarah Aslam, 27, and Jamnes Cameron, 28, that ended up being each other.

It all started when these two Plainfield natives met while working at their local Target store during high school. “I always thought he was really cute and funny,” says Aslam, now a certified personal trainer who also tends bar at and manages Bev’s in downtown Naperville. “He was one of my favorite people to work with, but we were both dating other people at the time.” They fell out of touch after graduation, but Cameron continued to work there on college breaks. After Aslam kept running into him while shopping, they decided to hang out.

Their former friendship swiftly shifted to romance. “If you ask anybody the first thing they notice about Sarah, it would be her smile,” says Cameron, a strength and conditioning coach at Base in La Grange. “She is so bright, and you can just feel her love.” Sunflowers are Aslam’s favorite flower, so when Cameron planned to propose, he took her to the sunflower field maze at Keller’s Farmstand in Oswego. They hoped to return there to take engagement photos, but when the field was closed for the season, they decided to pose for a series of portraits in the aisles of Target instead.

The couple married October 10 at Warehouse 109 in Plainfield in a garden ceremony officiated by the bride’s brother, Ian. “My favorite thing was just being on the dance floor with people we love,” Aslam says. Cameron adds: “We had a smaller guest list, so all of the friends and family who were there are actively in our lives. We were able to have meaningful conversations with everybody at some point.” Guests took photos with the bride’s Polaroid camera and capped off the night with an ice cream sundae bar. “That was important to us because whenever we do dessert at home or we want something sweet, we both pick up a pint of Ben & Jerry’s,” Aslam says. They honeymooned in Cancun and are looking forward to house-hunting in the west suburbs and starting a family.
