So Very Vintage

The team at Two Hands Interiors loves to source vintage rugs for all kinds of interior design projects, from the Keenan family’s classic, timeless home in Glen Ellyn to a financial planning office in Downers Grove. “[Each of these projects] have a different type of foot traffic and a completely different aesthetic, and vintage rugs just warmed up the entire space,” says designer Kim Taylor. “The thought of a vintage rug can give you pause because they’re not perfect and they have lived a lot, but they bring such texture and such depth of color ranges, and if you can find 100 percent wool, they’re very durable. They just add a layer of interest that’s hard to replicate with a new rug.”
Taylor and her colleagues comb online resellers and antique stores to find just the right vintage rugs for their clients. For the Keenans’ home, Taylor chose four different vintage rugs that all jive together. “You’ll never find two that are the same, so it’s a fun balance of finding ones that are friends—they go; they don’t match,” she says. “They can really take a home from a collection of retail items and things you can find anywhere to something a bit more special that’s been collected and created.”
