The area rug in the great room

When it comes to what size rug to use in a room, there are a few different schools of thought. While some prefer a smaller rug that extends only under the front feet of the furniture situated around it, Diana Wagenbach of Studio W in Hinsdale prefers to go big or go home.

“I am a huge believer in custom rugs, and it should be big enough that all of your furniture should sit on it,” she says. “You do pay a premium for a custom rug, but it’s 100 percent worth it because of how it feels when it’s a perfect fit for your room.” This rug was custom-made by Carpet Showcase in Clarendon Hills to extend to the edges of this two-story living room under a seating arrangement of two sofas and two accent chairs.
