Celebrate the season at Cantigny’s Fall Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday on the park’s Parade Field, 1S151 Winfield Road, in Wheaton.”There is something about the cooler weather, pumpkins, cider and mums that seem to put everybody in a good mood,” said Jeff Reiter, senior manager of communications for Cantigny Park and the Robert R. McCormick Foundation. “That’s the feeling at our fall festival.” From hayrides and pumpkin-decorating to crafts and a petting zoo, there’ll be plenty of festivities promoting that autumnal vibe.
“We try hard to make our festivals fun for the whole family,” Reiter said. “So in the case of Fall Fest, there are lots of fun things for kids, as you’d expect, but the craft fair appeals to the parents.”
Besides the craft show, activities include plant sales, multiple inflatables for all ages, an Usborne book fair (in the visitors center), hay rides for $1 a person, pumpkin sales and decorating for $3 each and face painting for $3 a person. Visitors also can paint their own ceramic pumpkin for $3 each.
In addition, visitors can coddle and feed some adorable barnyard critters at the petting zoo, which is $1 a person entry plus $1 for an animal feed cup.
As for live music, The Great Whiskey Project band will perform at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
If all that fresh fall air and excitement makes you hungry, six food trucks will be on hand from noon to 4 p.m. There also will be a beer tent for those 21 and older with a valid ID. Hot cider and hot chocolate and other goodies can be had at Bertie’s restaurant in the visitors center.
