KUDOS

With assistance and support from Ride Illinois, Aurora, Illinois has been awarded the Bronze Level Bicycle Friendly Community designation by The League of American Bicyclists. Ride Illinois is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving bicycling conditions throughout the state.

Cantigny Park, part of the Robert R. McCormick Foundation, recently donated $18,000 to the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans (MSHV) in Wheaton—proceeds from its thirteenth-annual Cantigny 5K Run/Walk. The race has now generated more than $93,000 for MSHV, which operates a transitional housing program with counseling, access to health care, and education and job-training services for US veterans of any era.

Naperville’s Laura Dierking, a student at Aurora University, was honored as one of the top college students in Illinois by the Lincoln Academy of Illinois during its annual Student Laureate Ceremony at the Old State Capitol State Historic Site in Springfield. The Phil Lawler Batting 4 A Cure Foundation recently presented a $20,000 check to the Edward Foundation to be used for Edward Cancer Center patient programs and services. The Lawler family formed the Foundation in memory of their father, Phil Lawler, a Naperville Central High School baseball coach, physical education teacher and children’s fitness advocate, who died of cancer in 2010.

KidsMatter, together with Mayor Chirico and the City Council of Naperville, recently honored twenty-two young people for their tremendous contributions to our community during the 2016 Naperville Youth Service Awards celebration.
