A Match Made in Music

Two choir classmates celebrate their union
A love for music put Marnie Lattof, 24, and Noah Davie, 25, on the same path as music education majors at Wheaton College. But it was a seemingly small moment of kindness that sparked their friendship—and eventual romance.
While on a choir field trip to sing at a homeless shelter and take a tour of Chicago, Lattof—who has rheumatoid arthritis—felt her joint pain start to worsen on the long walk from the train station. “When we got there, I just couldn’t be on my feet another instant,” she says. A student leader found her a wheelchair to use, which left her feeling both relieved and embarrassed. “I was just so mortified to be in this situation around my peers. And sure enough, when I sat down and we started the tour, no one would meet my eyes—until one person did,” she says. It was Davie. “He came over and he bent down next to me and he said, ‘Are you OK?’ ” They ended up spending much of the tour together, and in the weeks that followed, they started going to church and brunch on Sundays. “Some days we’d go to the grocery store after that, and we’d just end up talking until dinner. And it was one weekend after the next,” Lattof says. Weeks later, Lattof admitted she had a crush on Davie, which prompted him to share that he felt the same.
The first months of their relationship were filled with joyous times—like Lattof sharing her love for swing dance with Davie—and also challenges, such as when she needed major surgery to prevent a potential brain bleed. “He would drive me downtown and take me to all of my pre-op appointments,” Lattof says. “All along the way, he had been so understanding.” Davie remembers not thinking twice about being there for Lattof in those moments. “That’s what you’re supposed to do for your person,” he says. “Marnie has such a kindness and also a strength in difficult situations. If I had to go through what she goes through, day in and day out [health-wise], I would not be as kind and loving and as caring as she is, and I would certainly not be as strong as she is. That is what drew me to her.”
Their June 29 wedding day included first-look photos at Cricket Creek Forest Preserve in Addison (where Davie had proposed to Lattof in fall 2023), the ceremony at Harvard Avenue Evangelical Free Church in Villa Park, then dinner and dancing at Villa Olivia in Bartlett. Instead of a traditional head table, they surrounded themselves with several guests of honor, including Noah’s grandparents (who had been married the longest) and friends who had traveled the farthest. The floral centerpieces that adorned each table were made by the bride’s grandmother as her wedding gift to the couple.
They honeymooned in Bar Harbor, Maine, near Acadia National Park.
