We are often our own harshest critics. Leadership coach and local author Marianne Renner is working to help people change that with her new book, Self-Talk: 10 Stories You Tell Yourself That Hold You Back…And How to Overcome Them.

Renner shares the lessons she learned while overcoming decades of depression and addiction. “Over time, I found that it was the stories I was telling myself, my self-talk, that was really dragging me down,” she explains. The simple act of changing her self-talk not only helped her overcome depression—it also made positive changes in every area of her life, including her career, relationships, and finances.
The Aurora resident began sharing the tools and principles she learned with her leadership coaching clients and saw their lives change as well. “I decided to take these principles and put them in a book to help people change their self-talk and change the trajectory of any area of their lives that they feel stuck,” she says. “This book can help anyone who is struggling with self-doubt, a lack of confidence, and not believing in their own potential. It can help them master their mindset, change their self-talk, and see the results that they always wanted.”
