Comfort Curves

Tired of playing it straight when it comes to your home’s furnishings? You might be ready to catch a wave.

Curves are a hallmark of modern design, but today’s versions can successfully be adapted to a variety of home styles. Curvy furniture also plays nicely with more angular pieces, creating balance and cohesion.

One example: Fritz Hansen’s Drop Chair (pictured, $395–$1,340, fritzhansen.com), with its open teardrop silhouette, was originally designed by Modernist architect Arne Jacobsen for the bar and lobby at the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. The chair reportedly draws inspiration from the feeling of an embrace.

Bring the look to your place with curved edges, soft corners and rounded shapes that infuse spaces with a sense of coziness. It will be especially welcome during winter’s dark days.
