Drawing from deep roots of legendary players like George Lewis, Sweet Emma Barrett and Kid Thomas Valentine—all original stars of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band—today’s band members are bridging the gap between traditional jazz and the younger generation. Currently on a world tour promoting their album, “That’s It,” the band weaves its traditional New Orleans roots with a fresh style. Punchy horn-section riffs recalling the Ellington big band sound, funky tuba lines and backbeat drumming revive a bygone era for all generations. 8 p.m. Pfeiffer Hall at North Central College.
