Jenny LaRocque holding her book, ‘Little World Changer’

As a La Grange kindergarten teacher and a mother of two, Jenny LaRocque knows firsthand how representation and positive affirmation can uplift and empower children. In her debut book, Little World Changer, she hopes to inspire even more children to dream big and make the world a better place.

In the book she pairs colorful illustrations with positive affirmation statements and facts about individuals who have made a difference. “I love teaching my students about diverse people who have made an impact on our world in the hopes of them seeing themselves as future world changers,” she says. “Representation is powerful. When children see themselves reflected in the stories of great achievers, they begin to believe in their own potential.”

The Woodridge resident sells her book through Kind Cotton (kindcotton.com), a company that donates books to underprivileged children with every purchase. Its educator bundle includes the hardcover book and downloadable teaching resources, including slides, worksheets, and a craft.

“It’s been such a passion project of mine,” LaRocque says. “I hope that little readers around the world see themselves in this book and know that they can be anything that they want to be and change the world for the better.”
