Economic Optimism
In a recent wealth survey of 120 DuPage and Will County residents ages 21 to 75, 32 percent felt they could become a millionaire (or that they already are). When asked what it takes to be considered wealthy, the average answer was a cool $1.8 million.

The key component, says Charles Schwab financial consultant Kenneth Novak, is being engaged. “People should think about wealth as the money they have now, whether that’s a lot or a little,” encourages Novak, “and what matters is that you pay attention to it.”

Having a written financial plan makes a significant difference in behaviors that lead to financial growth (see stats at right)—those who do are more engaged with their wealth and demonstrate more positive saving and investing behaviors.
