Although a garage can be the place where household odds and ends accumulate, Niko Skakavac takes a much more intentional and systematic approach to garage design. As the owner of Naperville-based the Garage Beyond (thegaragebeyond.com), Skakavac has been designing and installing custom storage systems for 19 years.

With an architectural and installation background, Skakavac is a true designer. “One whole system, when designed properly, will make a big impact,” he says. “I listen to clients, they tell me their storage needs, and then I can tell them right away how the space needs to be organized.”

Skakavac provides 3D renderings of the space with estimates, and installation takes one to two days. The average two-car project, including a six-foot strip walls with cabinets, drawers, counters, and an epoxy floor, costs between $4,000 and $7,000.
