Anyone west of I-294 would be remiss to not check out Christkindl Market Naperville, now located on the grounds of Naper Settlement. (You may recall a previous Christkindl in Oak Brook.) Wooden huts housing approximately forty vendors will be filled with gifts and German delicacies harkening back to the original Christkindlesmarkt in Nuremburg, Germany in 1545. Create new family traditions including a private meal at a festively decorated Stammtisch table (reservations required). Live musicians will spread holiday cheer. Visiting hours vary; Thursdays through Sundays until December 18, then daily from December 19 to Christmas Eve. Admission is free.

If you haven’t been to Sullivan’s Steakhouse lately, you might not recognize the décor or the menu. Front- and back-of-the-house updates include new decor and seasonal cuisine. Pop-Art
“Authenticity” is a temporary installation by Shannon Greene Robb that went up in October—it’s longetivity will largely be determined by, of all things, the weather. The piece was part of an international art project, Inside Out, started by a French artist whose goal is to show what people stand for. Greene Robb produced the piece in collaboration with TEDxNaperville’s Arthur Zards, Liam Brex Custom Cabinetry and Design, and john greene Realtor. Twenty-eight residents participated, adding depth to Naperville’s amazing support for public art.

KUDOS
A group of 53 Naperville Park District volunteers recently gathered leftovers from the 2016 gardening season at the Ron Ory Community Garden Plots on West Street. The gleaning yielded 856 pounds of nutritious vegetables that were donated to Loaves & Fishes Community Services, providing healthy choices for area families. Volunteers included Metea Valley Vocational students, Naperville Evening Kiwanis, Garden Plot Ambassadors, Master Gardeners from the University of Illinois Extension, Naperville Community Gardeners, and students from the Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA) day program.
Fifteen-year-old Neuqua sophomore Imani Porter (far right) recently graced the red carpet at the Doctor Strange premier in Los Angeles. Imani was chosen as a finalist in Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange: The Magic of STEM Challenge. Her video entry focused on her STEM—science, technology, engineering and math—experiences doing research for the NAACP’s Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO). Imani’s vlog (video blog) introduces viewers to the fascinating field of metagenomics through the use of clever animation and personal presentation.

Eighteen-year-old Nihal Dantluri’s short film Day By Day was recently screened during the After Hours Film Society’s 2016 Say It In Eight Student Film Festival at the Tivoli Theater in Downers Grove. Dantluri’s film, along with 20 others, was selected out of more than 100 submissions to receive an Award of Excellence. It is the first award the young filmmaker has won for his work.
More than 800 people took part in the twelfth-annual A Walk to Remember, commemorating those who have experienced pregnancy loss and infant death. The event featured a memorial service followed by a one-mile walk. Participants raised more than $18,000 which will be used to launch Sharing Support, a parent peer support group, as well as the Edward Foundation’s SHARE Program and the Wings of Hope Angel Garden at Edward Hospital.
Jason Xia is the first and only student EVER to get a perfect score on the AP physics 1 exam. More incredibly, fellow Naperville North student Kelvin Li also got a perfect score on his AP microeconomics exam. And Neuqua grad Anne Botos had no errors when she took the AP U.S. government test. Shout-outs to Naperville Community Unit School District 203 and Indian Prairie School District 204—well done, all!
Tamara Wilson was awarded the 2016 Richard Tucker Award by the foundation of the same name. The soprano was selected for the prestigious award as an American singer poised on the edge of a major national and international career. Wilson grew up in Naperville, and her vocal training began with Young Naperville Singers, Only A Stage and Waubonsie Valley High School.
