It’s a book Nichole Yunger didn’t want to write. But ultimately, she felt the story needed to be told.
In 2016, Yunger’s sister, Laura, was killed by her husband, Anthony Harrison. Laura and Nichole were two-thirds of a set of triplets who grew up in Naperville, along with a younger set of triplets in the family. The rarity of a two-triplet family gave them some notoriety in the area (they even once appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show). The conviction of Laura’s husband took years, but after his final appeals ended in 2022, Nichole decided it was time to tell her sister’s story.
“I had made a promise to myself that I’d keep her memory alive,” Nichole says. So in 2023, she began what would be her memoir, The Good One: A Memoir of Love, Loss and Justice.
“I went to the courthouse and went through every piece of evidence,” she says. “There were some things I had forgotten, and there was some stuff I hadn’t seen before. Reliving that was hard. But at the same time, I feel like it was therapeutic to a degree. I felt like enough time had passed.”
She also believes Laura’s story will help others in similar situations. “So many women still struggle with domestic violence,” Nichole says. “I hope women can learn from this and get out.”
