Every summer Kimmer’s Ice Cream parlors (St. Charles, Wheaton, and Elmhurst; kimmersicecream.com) debut new hot-weather flavors. This season’s top pick: an upscale crème brûlée. It leverages Kimmer’s base recipe (made with 14 percent butterfat for luxurious mouth feel), adds caramelized notes, then swirls in actual brûléed sugar. “It’s filled with crunchy gooey pockets of deliciousness,” says Isaac Yates, manager of the St. Charles shop. Ooh la la.
