The dedication of her grandfather, father, and uncles who all served in the U.S. Army during World War I, the Korean War, World War II, and Vietnam inspired Ives to attend West Point, serve as an army platoon leader, and spend six years in Germany as a headquarters commander. She then worked at Wheaton College as an ROTC officer.

Ives shifted to public service in 2012 as an Illinois state representative for three terms and a member of the Wheaton City Council. “My military background certainly influenced my serving further in public office. Serving in uniform formed my view of what we are really fighting for.”

Paul and Jeanne Ives (above in Cadet uniforms) have three children who have continued the military tradition.
