On May 18 and 19, nearly 30 trained arborists competed in the Illinois Arborist Association’s 2024 Tree Climbing Championship at St. James Farm Forest Preserve in Warrenville.
Naperville resident Gene Garcia, a U.S. Navy veteran, was invited to march in this year’s national Memorial Day parade in Washington, D.C. Garcia served on board the USNS Mercy hospital ship as a surgical technologist during Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. Slated for a fall 2025 dedication, a new monument is being built in Washington to honor veterans of those conflicts.
