Danielle Schaeffer, disability ministry director at the Christ Church of Oak Brook, shared her story during the SamaraCare Breakfast Benefit May 2 at Elements on Water Street in Naperville. The annual event raised funds for mental health care for women and children in need.

More than 1,600 participants gathered May 3 at Cantigny Park in Wheaton for Northern Illinois Food Bank’s largest annual awareness and fundraising event, the 12th annual Fight Hunger 10K, 5K, and 1-Mile Run/Walk.

The Fry Family YMCA hosted its Healthy Kids Day on April 26 where families could learn about community resources and partners, eye screenings, and fitness classes. The national champion North Central College football team (pictured) helped out.
Batavia Park District celebrated the grand opening of Clark Island Recreation Area’s new and improved amenities, including a fitness court, skate park, bike pump track (pictured), fishing outcrops, and a pollinator garden. The redevelopment project at 401 S. River St. was funded in part by a $600,000 Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development Grant and a grant from BlueCross and BlueShield of Illinois.
The Edward Foundation awarded $20,000 in scholarships to 10 Endeavor Health Edward Hospital student volunteers from local high schools.
