For their film ‘King of Hearts,’ eight Neuqua Valley High School students won the Outstanding Achievement in Cinema Award and the Audience Choice Award at the ninth annual Student Silent Film Festival, held Jan. 28 at the Tivoli Theatre in Downers Grove.

Honoring Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy, the third annual DuPage County MLK Unity Breakfast featured a chat with national civil rights leader Dorothy Counts-Scoggins, one of the first Black students admitted to Harding High School in Charlotte, North Carolina, as well as a performance by gospel singer Lemmie Battles (above) and the MLK Unity Choir. More than 1,300 guests attended the sold-out event Jan. 19 at Drury Lane in Oakbrook Terrace; proceeds support the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Fund of the DuPage Foundation.
