The College of DuPage Foundation hosted its “For the Love of Warhol: A Night at Studio 54” gala February 18 at Esplanade Lakes in Downers Grove. The benefit drew more than 330 attendees and raised nearly $200,000 to support future exhibitions, including this summer’s Warhol exhibit at the McAninch Arts Center and the Cleve Carney Museum of Art, running June 3 through September 10.
For his smoked pork belly appetizer, chef Scott Willett Jr. (at podium) was crowned winner of the 11th annual Chefs Culinary Challenge February 5 at the Chicago Marriott Naperville.
The 11th annual Chefs Culinary Challenge raised $260,000 for the West Suburban Community Pantry. Each chef designed and prepared one of the meal’s seven courses, plating and finishing each dish in front of 400 guests.
Thanks to the attention of trainers at the Naperville Area Humane Society, former stray Brutus has been accepted by the Search Dog Foundation, a nonprofit that trains shelter dogs in search and rescue. The NAHS trainers noticed Brutus’s talents and thought he’d make a solid candidate for the California program.
Over Presidents Day weekend on the North Central College campus, about 4,000 area volunteers ranging in age from 5 to 95 packed 800,000 meals at the 13th annual Feed the Need Illinois event, benefiting Feed My Starving Children, a nonprofit that delivers dried, fortified food to malnourished youths around the world. Those meals will feed 2,220 kids one meal a day for an entire year.
