Over 400 people strolled through downtown Naperville, tumblers in hand, during its first Winter Wine Walk on Sunday, February 6. The event organizer, Downtown Naperville Alliance, decided to host a winter walk after the success of its spring and summer walks.
“We thought people would love another opportunity to sip, stroll, shop, and snack,” explains Downtown Naperville Alliance executive director Danielle Tufano. “The event sold out in less than eight hours.”
While businesses downtown saw a boom, another local organization also felt the halo effect. Proceeds from ticket sales benefited Naperville Community television (NC17 TV).
The cold weather didn’t freeze participants’ spirits. They enjoyed a variety of wines throughout the afternoon. Each designated stop around downtown provided a one-ounce pour of red or white, snacks, and store discounts.
If you missed this opportunity to sip and stroll, don’t worry. You can do it again—and without having to wear gloves; plans are underway for the Spring Wine Walk in June.
